MONTREAL – A goal in the 89th minute from Dominc Iankov and one three minutes later from Ruan Teixeira lifted CF Montreal to a 4-2 Major League Soccer win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night.

Quinn Sullivan and Jesus Bueno found the back of the net for Philadelphia (4-8-8), while Josef Martinez and Bryce Duke also scored for Montreal (5-8-7), which extended its unbeaten home streak to five games.

Both teams started the match cautiously, slowing the game to a snail’s pace. Neither team wanted to give the ball away in a difficult position.

As the clock struck half an hour, the game moved into high gear and Philadelphia was the first to score.

After Sullivan was completely free in the center of the penalty area, he fired low via the post, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

However, Montreal only needed five minutes to respond as Martinez rose above the defense to score a perfectly placed corner from Duke.

With the match much more open and attacking, Union was able to regain the lead after just six minutes with another defensive lapse in Montreal’s penalty area. Missed throws and a lack of coverage allowed Bueno to make a simple tap-in at the far post.

Montreal took control early in the second half in search of an equalizer. The breakthrough would come during a chaotic free-kick series.

A high, looping ball from Duke managed to slip past the entire defense and headed towards the goal. A missed clearance from Jack Eliott eventually sent the ball into the net, tying the score at 2-2.

Now tied, Montreal went in search of all three points by completely taking over the tempo of the game. With time running out, Iankov would score that goal as regulation time expired. After beating a defender, the Bulgarian international fired the ball into the bottom corner.
