King Cruise returns to downtown Kitchener for a new year

For over 25 years, Cruising on King has taken over King Street in downtown Kitchener with classic cars and entertainment. It returns on Friday, July 12, starting at 5:30 p.m. and running until 9:30 p.m.

New this year, the City of Kitchener has added food trucks, additional seating and a licensed bar.

Steve Roth, special events manager for the city, told CityNews 570 that Cruising on King features classic cars, many of which date back to the 1950s.

“If you’re a car guy, if you’re not a car guy, if you just like looking at really cool stuff, this is a great event to be at. It’s a great event to take the family out,” Roth said.

“We also have a licensed area this year, which we’ve never done before. So there’s quite a few new things this year.”

The event will feature approximately 100 classic cars, from hot rods to vintage Corvettes, classic Volkswagen Beetles and more.

CityNews 570 listeners will likely recognize the lead singer of the Rolling Stones tribute band, Beggars Banquet, as a former longtime morning show host. Glenn Pelletier will take the stage as the lead singer of the band that provides vocals for Mick Jagger.

“A lot of people know Glenn from that, from the radio, but I have to tell you he’s one of the best Mick Jaggers you’ve ever heard. He interprets it perfectly.”

“You won’t even recognize him on stage,” Roth said.

“Whether you’re a car guy or not, there’s plenty to do. Plenty to see, plenty to eat, plenty to hear. The weather is supposed to be great, so I’d say come on down and visit us in downtown Kitchener and enjoy Cruising on King.”
