Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre is expected to make his first personal address to the Assembly of First Nations today.

Poilievre, who has a tense relationship with some indigenous peoples, will speak with a speech and a question-and-answer session.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh will also speak, on the final day of the annual general meeting in Montreal.

The AFN is also expected to hear from victims’ families in a criminal case over the murders of four First Nations women, after a Manitoba judge rules.

Jeremy Skibicki confessed to the murders, but his lawyers argued that he could not be held criminally liable because of his mental illness.

On Wednesday, the AFN called on Manitoba to launch an independent investigation into the killings that sparked nationwide protests and demanded a landfill be searched for the remains of two of the victims.
