Construction in Ottawa: Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard at Highway 174 closed this weekend for construction

Motorists driving in eastern Ottawa should expect delays this weekend due to the closure of Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard at Highway 174.

The City of Ottawa says Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard and the freeway ramps will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday as part of the construction of Phase 2 of the light rail project. During the closure, access to Highway 174 from Jeanne d’Arc will be blocked all weekend.

The construction works include electrical work and paving on Jeanne d’Arc.

“As a reminder, the closure of the Jeanne d’Arc viaduct is necessary to pave the road and to continue with the final redevelopment of the sidewalk and lanes on the viaduct for the renovation of the Jeanne d’Arc bridge,” councilor Laura Dudas said on Facebook.

“This project and its associated community impacts were detailed by Stage 2 in their presentation last fall, and at the time it was anticipated that ten weekend closures would be required for the work. This weekend is one of the last remaining closures in the schedule, and the work is expected to be completed in the coming months.”

Highway 174 will remain open to motorists this weekend during the work.

The city warns that work will take place at night to meet the construction time.

“Area lighting and generators are being used to power lights, which is a safety requirement for nighttime work. Crews will position and/or direct lights away from homes to minimize any impact,” a statement on the OC Transpo website said.

Noise and vibration monitors are being installed.

Detours

Motorists can access Highway 174 in either direction via the Place d’Orleans/Champlain Street interchange or via the Montreal Road interchange.

If you’re traveling to the Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard neighborhood, you can exit the freeway at Montreal Road and Place d’Orleans and drive along St. Joseph Boulevard.
