Chickens were seen wandering around on Highway 401 in Milton early Wednesday morning after a tractor carrying the birds collided with another vehicle. Catalina Gillies has the details.

Police say charges are pending after a truck carrying live chickens collided with another vehicle and ended up in the median on Highway 401 west of James Snow Parkway in Milton.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to the area around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 401, causing the truck to lose its load. Police say several chickens died from the impact of the crash, while live chickens were scattered across the highway.

It is not yet known how many chickens were in the truck at the time.

The truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The accident happened during a downpour in GTA and police suspect the rain played a role in the crash.

The HOV lanes are closed on both sides of the freeway at James Snow Parkway. The left lane was also closed on the eastbound 401, but reopened around 8 a.m.
