Woman arrested after boat trespassing and jumping into ocean in Victoria

Victoria Police say they have arrested a woman who boarded a boat in Victoria’s Inner Harbour and then jumped into the ocean.

On Wednesday, July 10th at approximately 11:00am, Victoria Police Department (VicPD) received a report of a woman on a boat in the 1200 block of Wharf Street. When officers arrived and attempted to speak with her, she barricaded herself in the boat.

“Trained crisis negotiators from our emergency response team attempted to communicate with the individual to facilitate a peaceful surrender,” a statement from the VicPD said.

According to police, she jumped into the water around 2 p.m. and was rescued by officers and members of the Marine Search and Rescue.

She was arrested for malicious mischief and later released with a future trial.
