Man charged after barricading himself in Waterloo: WRPS

A man is facing charges after barricading himself in his room in Waterloo on Tuesday, according to the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS).

At 2:45 p.m., police responded to reports of a public disturbance involving an intoxicated man in the area of ​​University Avenue West and Lester Street.

“The individual involved became aggressive and attacked other individuals before barricading himself in his room,” police said in an email to CTV News.

There was a large police presence outside a building on University Avenue West, including a tactical team.

Police said that after hours of negotiations with police, the person was arrested at 5:45 p.m.

There was no threat to public safety and no injuries were reported.

A 39-year-old Waterloo man is facing charges of assault and battery under $5,000, related to property damage.
