For those wondering if the popular Dolce Amore ice cream shop on Commercial Drive will reopen after last summer’s devastating fire, the short answer is yes.

Giancarlo Cusano, one half of the husband and wife team behind the ice cream parlor, tells VIA they plan to reopen their main location in the summer of 2025, after the cafe was destroyed by fire on August 22, 2023.

“We are coming back with a more expansive concept as we are also taking over the adjacent corner space, formerly Hānai, which will give us a much larger retail space,” Cusano explains.

Hānai was the Michelin-recommended, upscale Hawaiian-inspired restaurant next door to us at 1590 Commercial Dr. The restaurant was damaged in the same fire and had to close.

The new version of Dolce Amore will also include “many new products,” Cusano said.

He adds that Dolce Amore is simultaneously expanding in Burnaby.

“This is our new production facility where we currently only sell gelato for takeout, but we will be opening a more extensive concept again later this year,” he tells VIA

Meanwhile, Dolce Amore’s North Vancouver location in Lower Lonsdale is celebrating its first anniversary with a celebratory event planned for the weekend of July 27 and 28.
