A recent inspection of commercial vehicles in Delta found more than 400 violations.

In late June, the Delta Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit teamed up with several other enforcement agencies to improve commercial vehicle traffic safety.

The operation focused on commercial vehicles that may not be properly maintained and could pose a hazard on the road. Inspections prioritized critical aspects such as mechanical components and driver qualifications, particularly brakes, tires, lighting, steering, load securing, driver’s license compliance and driver fatigue.

During the two-day initiative, 84 vehicles were inspected, mainly light commercial vehicles, pick-up trucks, small vans, commercial vehicles and some larger commercial vehicles.

A total of 403 violations were found among the 84 commercial vehicles checked during the two-day operation.

As a result, 49 vehicles (58 percent) were found unfit for use and had to be repaired immediately before they could be driven any further. In addition, 17 fines were issued to the drivers of the vehicles.
