Victoria News: 3 injured after dramatic crash involving car, pick-up and bus

Police are investigating a high-speed crash at an intersection in Victoria, British Columbia, where a pickup truck collided with a city bus Wednesday evening.

Victoria Police said in a statement that three people were taken to hospital after the collision, including the driver of the pickup truck, who suffered “serious and potentially life-changing injuries.”

The dramatic crash was captured on video, which shows a car running a red light at the intersection of Douglas and Bay Street shortly after 10:30 p.m.

The vehicle collides with a pickup truck and the impact of the collision causes the larger vehicle to collide with a BC Transit bus that was stopped at a traffic light.

The company told CTV News that there were passengers on the bus, but that no “serious injuries” were reported among them.

“The bus sustained significant front-end damage during the incident and there was a loss of service as a result. BC Transit would like to thank emergency services for their quick response,” a spokesperson said in an email.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved.”

According to police, multiple witnesses said they saw the car involved in the crash traveling at a “high rate of speed” on Douglas. By the time authorities arrived on the scene, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames.

“The responding officer, along with bystanders, safely removed the driver and passenger from the vehicle,” the VicPD said in a news release, adding that both occupants suffered only “minor injuries.”

The cause of the crash has not been confirmed. Authorities said a blood sample was taken from the driver of the car to determine if he was impaired.
