Two women in a van attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old boy in southeast Edmonton earlier this week, and police say investigators are hoping for tips to help them track them down.

The boy was walking home Thursday night on 38th Avenue in the Woodvale neighborhood, police said. Shortly after 7:15 p.m., near the intersection of 55th Street, a black or dark gray Sprinter-style van — police described it as an Amazon-style van — approached the boy.

Two women — whose ages were not specified — were inside. One of them got out of the vehicle and told the boy to get in, but the boy fled home, police said.

The woman who reportedly spoke to the boy was described as white and of “medium build,” police said. She appeared to be in her 30s, had shoulder-length brown hair and was wearing a black dress at the time.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity involving a vehicle as described to contact them at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a cell phone.

People can also submit information to Crime Stoppers anonymously online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
