Cypress County considered withdrawing from the commission during a closed discussion on May 7, but postponed a final decision until after the Sept. 4 meeting.

The lack of progress within the commission has been a stumbling block for the region.

Reeve Dan Hamilton said Cypress County is always trying to move forward, especially as a region.

“We should be working as a region. There are so many options that can be done and worked together,” Hamilton said.

“I truly believe that with the councillors, the meetings that we had with all the councillors together when we came out of that meeting, we will of course have our differences of opinion on certain things, but everyone is united as a region, we are all positive and want to work together and get things done.”

Hamilton said they hope to have the first draft of the revised Intermunicipal Development Plan completed by Nov. 1. Public input will follow, with the plan expected to be ready in early spring.

“Let’s make things happen in Cypress County, the Town of Redcliff and the City of Medicine Hat. Let’s go. We have so many resources and so many things that we can do here together and work on together,” Hamilton said.

“Let’s get things moving. Time is running out, and we need to get going. If we want to get things done before the next election, we need to get going now and get it done.”

The City of Medicine Hat and the Municipality of Redcliff did not respond to requests for comment.
