A man is facing charges after barricading himself in his room in Waterloo on Tuesday, according to the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS).

According to police, it originally came in as a medical call in the area of ​​University Avenue West at 2:45 p.m.

“The individual involved became aggressive and attacked other individuals before barricading himself in his room,” police said in an email to CTV News.

There was a large police presence outside a building on University Avenue West, near Phillip Street, including a tactical team.

Police say there are concerns about weapons, but would not say whether any weapons were found.

The person was arrested at 5:45 p.m.

Police say a 39-year-old man is facing charges of assault and battery under $5,000 in connection with the damage to the property.

According to the police, there is no danger to public safety.
