North Vancouver RCMP are asking the public for help after an American couple’s belongings were stolen from the Airbnb they were staying at just minutes after arriving.

It happened shortly after the couple arrived at their accommodation in Lonsdale, before midnight on July 2.

Madhuchhda Mandal and her fiancé were visiting from Indiana and left the back door of their vacation home open while they unloaded the rest of their luggage.

“And when we went back, I immediately realized we had been robbed,” Mandal told CityNews.

She says her wallet, the couple’s passports, a laptop, car keys and a camera are all gone.

“I immediately panicked… I thought, ‘No, no, no, this can’t be happening, this is just a nightmare.’ We travel so much and I know how important those documents are,” she said.

Although the couple’s belongings were missing, the incident was captured on surveillance footage, which the Airbnb host shared with them after learning of the incident.

The video shows a person rushing out of the house with multiple bags in his hands. The suspect then starts running, still carrying the items that were taken.

Mandal shared the video online and with CityNews.

She says they called police to report what had happened, but it took more than an hour and a half for officers to arrive.

The North Vancouver RCMP is now hoping someone will recognize the thief.

“If anyone recognizes the suspect in the video, they are asked to call the RCMP to continue our investigation,” said Const. Mansoor Sahak.
