A beach in Halifax is closed due to possible blue-green algae blooms.

HRM reports that Cunard Pond Beach is closed for recreational use.

Water users are encouraged to take the following precautions:

  • Avoid contact with water. If contact occurs, dry thoroughly and wash with tap water as soon as possible.
  • Do not swim or wade (or allow your pets to swim or wade) in areas where blue-green algae is visible or in areas that are closed to swimming because of the possible presence of blue-green algae.
  • Keep pets on a leash and do not allow them to eat blue-green algae material.
  • Do not drink water from this lake.
  • Do not eat fish that comes from this lake.

The city says the beach will remain closed while the bloom is tested.
