Toronto police have identified a 16-year-old boy as the victim of a fatal shooting at a Parkdale apartment building early Monday morning.

Officers were called to King Street West and Jameson Avenue around midnight for reports of gunfire at an apartment building in the area.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man on the balcony of the unit who had been shot. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was not a resident of the building and did not have identification on him when officers arrived.

In an update Tuesday, investigators identified the victim as 16-year-old Toronto resident Mohamed Doumbouya, the city’s 46th homicide victim of the year.

Police have not yet released a description of the suspect. Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the building.

Detective Jeff Allington told reporters at the scene Monday that detectives will be canvassing the neighborhood in the coming days to locate and speak with witnesses.

A woman who lives in the apartment building where the shooting took place told CTV News Toronto on Monday that she was not home at the time of the incident, but that she often helps people who need a place to sleep.

Allington could not comment on these claims, but said police are aware of a “number” of buildings in the area that are known to allow access to non-residents.

“But I don’t know if this particular building has had problems before,” he said.

“There have been a number of people in and out of the building and we are asking anyone who was in or out of this building between 11:30pm and 12:30am last night to contact police.”
