Regina Film Festival Reveals 2024 Lineup

The Regina International Film Festival and Awards (RIFFA) has announced the line-up for the 9th annual festival, which will take place in August.

RIFFA received 521 film submissions from 66 countries, of which 112 were named official selections for RIFFA 2024.

This year, there are 45 directorial debuts. There are also 31 female and six genderqueer or non-binary filmmakers, and films produced in 27 different languages.

The full list is available on the RIFFA website.

“We are a 100 percent volunteer-run arts organization based in Saskatchewan, focused primarily on empowering people who otherwise would not have a voice,” said John Thimothy, President and CEO of RIFFA.

“People think the festival is just entertainment and movies. It is much more than that.”

In addition to the recurring programming, there are also several new events this year.

A RIFFA Academy Fundraising Gala will be held at the RCMP Heritage Centre. Additionally, a networking series will bring participants to a surprise location in Regina for networking experiences.

Also new in 2024 is the Saskatchewan Filmmakers Forum, a free public event that brings together filmmakers and local film enthusiasts.

Collaboration with Wascana Rehab

The RIFFA Foundation, in partnership with the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, also presented the Virtual Gateway Program.

The program uses virtual reality (VR) technology and is designed to improve the lives of people who use wheelchairs.

The program includes tailored VR experiences to support physical rehabilitation goals, motivating participants to move and exercise.

A one-year pilot project at Wascana Rehab involved 300 people.

“The expertise and tireless efforts of the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre recreation department are key to the success of the initiative,” Thimothy said in a press release.

The physical festival will take place in Regina from August 20 to 24, 2024.
