Alberta’s police watchdog, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), says it is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting on June 29 in the Fraser neighbourhood.

ASIRT says police received a report of a rollover collision on Anthony Henday Drive at approximately 8:55 p.m. during the initial stages of their investigation.

Reports said the driver of the crash fled on foot before Edmonton police arrived, and officers began searching the area.

At approximately 21:11, Air 1 was called to assist in locating the driver. At 21:21, a man matching the driver’s description was found and an EPS officer radioed in.

The officer then exited his vehicle and the man “stopped walking and raised his arms to the side as he faced the officer who had his weapon drawn,” the reports said.

The officer and the man spoke before the officer fired his gun, killing the man.

ASIRT is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 780-644-1483.
