Major supermarket chain Costco plans to open a new location in Metro Vancouver.

Development plans have been published for a new site in South Surrey, revealing that a brand new building will be constructed.

The new store would be located at 1947 164 St., between 18th and 20th Avenues.

Drawings of the site show the proposed Costco, a large parking lot, a gas station and two other buildings, one of which is designated as “retail.”

The Washington state brand has about 100 locations in Canada; currently there are seven in Metro Vancouver and an eighth in Abbotsford. The closest locations to the new proposed site are north of Langley and in central Surrey.

The site of the proposed store is now mostly wooded, with some homes along 18th Avenue; those properties appear to remain in the proposed area. New multi-family homes have been built in recent years in the area of the proposed Costco.

Currently, the project is still in its early stages. The draft site plan has been submitted to the city, a City of Surrey official tells VIA Costco plans to go before council this fall.
