Forensic personnel arrived on scene(Image: David Nathan/UKNIP)

A 33-year-old man was stabbed to death in broad daylight on a street in Walthamstow on Saturday (6 July). His killer remains at large and police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the incident, but have launched a murder investigation.

Witnesses saw the killer ‘running away’ from the scene on Lea Bridge Road, police said. Officers and paramedics were called to reports of the stabbing just before 3pm. They found the fatally injured man on Lea Bridge Road, between Bakers Arms and Vicarage Road, where he sadly died at the scene, despite the efforts of paramedics.

Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley, of Specialist Crime Command, said: “My team is working around the clock to establish exactly what happened and what led to a man’s tragic death. Although we have spoken to a number of witnesses, we are keen to hear from anyone who saw the suspect running away. Where did he go? If you were driving nearby and have a dashcam, please watch the footage in case you captured anything that could help us.

“Furthermore, we firmly believe that people in the area have information that could assist the investigation and we urge you to contact us and tell us what you know.”

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy posted online about the attack: “Confirmed that a young man has sadly lost his life in an attack. I urge everyone on this thread to refrain from speculating as a way of respecting his family who are deeply grieving for their loss. If you have any information as to the reason for this appalling attack… please come forward – we can only stop the cycle of violence this represents together by standing up to those who perpetuate it.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number CAD 4049/06Jul. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
