The NHL is about 11 months away from awarding the 2025 Stanley Cup, but the Edmonton Oilers are already emerging as early favorites. FanDuel says the Oilers have the best Cup odds for 2025 at +850.

The Oilers fell just one game short this season, losing to the Florida Panthers in seven games. After falling behind 3-0 in the series, the Oilers seemed to have almost made history, crawling back to force a seventh game, but could not seal the deal.

Entering the 2024-25 season, the Oilers should feel like they are in control of the league. They came so close to winning despite a brutal series deficit, and they have already done a great job of improving their lineup.

In the offseason, the Oilers added Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson to their offense. A key face in Corey Perry returns for another try, and they still have two of the best players in the world in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

Draisaitl’s contractual situation may be unclear, but there would have to be an air of unfinished business to keep him.

The returning Cup champion Panthers are second in the early odds race at +950. The Panthers nearly found themselves on the wrong side of one of the worst collapses in NHL history, but they held on for their franchise’s first Stanley Cup.

The Panthers haven’t made much of an impression by adding names during free agency, but they have lost key players, such as defenseman Brandon Montour and forwards Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan Lomberg.

It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers to return to the cup final, but returning champions always get the edge in the early betting.

The Dallas Stars (+1000), New Jersey Devils (+1100) and Colorado Avalanche (+1100) round out the Fan Duel top five.
