Remnants of Beryl could cause heavy rainfall: Environment Canada

Environment Canada has issued a special weather warning for most of Southern Ontario, warning residents of the potential for heavy rainfall as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl move through the area.

The statement, issued early Tuesday morning, warned of “downpours” that could begin Tuesday night or Wednesday and continue into Thursday.

Beryl made landfall in Texas on Monday as a Category 1 hurricane after leaving a trail of destruction across the Caribbean over the weekend.

According to Environment Canada, there is little certainty at this time about the system’s exact path, but it is possible that some locations could see rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 millimetres per hour.

The special weather warning may also be upgraded to a rainfall advisory as the system approaches.
