The recent rainy weather in Winnipeg poses a challenge to the city’s mosquito control program.

According to a statement from the City of Winnipeg, crews have been working hard to keep the mosquito population at a manageable level. Without this hard work, the population would be much higher.

As of Monday, Winnipeg’s mosquito rating system is set to medium, meaning that the current percentage of nuisance adult mosquitoes may increase. It also means that the current status and stage of adult mosquito generation is increasing overall.

Winnipeg said it is ready to fog for adult mosquitoes. However, the way it fogs in the future will have to be adjusted because the chemicals used for fogging are running out and new ones are no longer available.

The city is now investigating alternative options for future fogging.
