Remnants of Beryl could cause heavy rainfall: Environment Canada

Environment Canada has issued a special weather warning for the Waterloo region, alerting residents to the potential for heavy rainfall as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl move through the area.

The statement, issued early Tuesday morning for much of southern Ontario, warns of “torrential rain” that could begin Tuesday or Wednesday evening and last into Thursday.

This comes after Beryl made landfall in Texas on Monday as a Category 1 hurricane, after leaving a trail of destruction across the Caribbean over the weekend.

Environment Canada says there is little confidence in the system’s precise path at this time, but it is possible that some places could see rainfall amounts of up to 20 to 40 millimetres per hour.

The warning may be upgraded to a rainfall advisory as the system approaches.
