Brits love Mary Berry’s one-bowl Victoria Sponge Cake. And it’s quick and easy to make, too.

The recipe has gone viral and people are in awe of how quick and delicious it is. Posted by TikTok user neaglin, the clever recipe has bakers’ mouths watering.

There is one drawback though, it has been called “dangerous” because it really tastes so good. To make it, all you have to do is throw all the ingredients in one bowl and mix it.

This is what you need:

  • 225 g margarine (straight from the refrigerator)
  • 225g caster sugar (with a little extra for dusting)
  • 225 g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 4 large eggs
  • 200 ml whipped cream
  • 6-8 tablespoons strawberry jam (approximately)

The method is as simple as the ingredient list, so even beginners in the kitchen can make this masterpiece.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C/fan 160°C/gas mark 4.
  • Then grease a few 20cm round baking tins and line them with baking paper.
  • Then take a mixing bowl, add the baking spread, sugar, eggs, flour and baking powder and mix everything well with a food processor until it is completely smooth.
  • Divide the mixture evenly between your cake tins and place in a preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. To check if it is ready, gently press the sponge. If it springs back, it is ready.
  • Let the cake cool before removing it from the pan. Remove the baking paper and let it cool on a rack.
  • Then whip the cream until it is nice and thick. When the cake is completely cooled, spread jam on one and spread cream on the other. All that is left to do now is stick them together and sprinkle a pinch of caster sugar on top.
