A man and a woman were killed Monday night when a UP Express train collided in the city’s west end, emergency workers said.

The incident took place near Weston Road and Eglinton Avenue West.

Police said they responded to a report of a person being hit by a train shortly after 10 p.m.

They said officers found a second person.

Both people were pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a message on X.

A Toronto police spokesperson told CP24.com that it is “still in the early stages of the investigation to determine how/why it happened.”

The investigation is still ongoing.

UP Express train services were halted following the collision, but have since resumed.
