The remnants of Hurricane Beryl are forecast to bring heavy rain to Ontario this week.

After Hurricane Beryl makes landfall in North America, the hurricane is expected to reach Ottawa and the surrounding area.

Environment Canada predicts the storm will arrive late Tuesday and last into Thursday. The storm has weakened and is now classified as a tropical storm.

Heavy rainfall of 20 to 40 mm per hour can occur at times. In some places more than 50 mm can fall.

According to Environment Canada’s special weather statement, the reliability of forecasted weather conditions is low, but it does say that “these types of systems have historically produced very high rainfall rates in downpours.”
