Bombs found in mailboxes in rural Saskatchewan: RCMP

Saskatoon RCMP officers suspect someone is leaving bombs in mailboxes in rural areas.

According to an RCMP press release, officers observed seven mailboxes damaged by explosives in the past 24 hours.

On Sunday, officers were called to Sunset Estates in the RM of Blucher, about 25 kilometres east of Saskatoon, for reports that multiple mailboxes had been broken into and suspicious items left inside. According to police, one of the mailboxes was damaged by an explosive device.

At 10 a.m. Monday morning, the Saskatoon RCMP were alerted to another mailbox bomb, this time on Rural Road 3040 in the Corman Park district.

Officers discovered that seven bombs had been placed in mailboxes in the area, six of which had been detonated.

There were no injuries, police said.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit is also investigating.

The RCMP is warning residents not to touch any suspicious or unknown devices found in mailboxes.

If you have any information about the incidents, please call the Saskatoon RCMP or submit a tip to Crime Stoppers.
