A man is in critical condition after being attacked with a blunt object in an alley in Montreal’s Plateau neighborhood.

Montreal Police Service (SPVM) officers responded to a 911 call around 7:45 p.m. reporting that a man had been assaulted in an alley on St. Denis Street, near Mont-Royal Avenue, two blocks from the Mont-Royal metro station.

When officers arrived, they found a man with injuries to his upper body caused by a blunt weapon. Initially, police believed he had been stabbed, but it was later confirmed that he had been attacked with a blunt object.

He was conscious when he was taken to hospital, but his condition deteriorated.

“We fear for his life in the hospital,” said SPVM spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant. “There seems to have been an out-of-control altercation between the victim and another person in the alley.”

The police investigation is still ongoing.

No arrests have been made.
