A power outage in a Scarborough neighborhood left thousands of people without power late Monday afternoon.

According to Toronto Hydro, the affected area extends from Midland and Victoria Park Avenues in the east and west and from Steeles Avenue to Highway 401 in the north and south.

The utility’s power outage map shows that more than a few thousand customers have been affected, but it is unclear exactly how many people are without power at the time of writing.

Toronto Hydro said crews are on site to restore power, expected around 9:30 p.m. The company also thanked customers for their patience during the heat wave.

“We know it’s hot and we’re working as quickly and safely as possible,” the company said in a tweet.

Toronto Hydro reported in an update that power has already been restored to some customers and crews are working to resolve the issue.

The exact cause of the outage is unknown at this time, but data from Toronto Hydro shows it started around 4:30 p.m.

This is a developing story. More to come.
