The remnants of Hurricane Beryl could bring heavy rainfall to the Waterloo region this week.

Environment Canada issued a special weather warning on Monday as the system is expected to impact parts of southern Ontario beginning Tuesday evening.

This happens after Beryl is downgraded to a tropical storm.

The local weather warning said: “While confidence in the exact track of the weather system is low, such systems have historically delivered very high rainfall totals in downpours.”

Rainfall can be fast and heavy, with possible rates of 20 to 40 mm per hour. Residents should take precautions based on the conditions.

The special weather warning may be upgraded to a rain warning as the system approaches.

Most of the rain is expected on Wednesday, but it could continue into Thursday.
