Owners of a popular local spot are “excited to announce” a second destination for Nepalese and Indo-Chinese cuisine

Downtown Vancouver will soon welcome a new restaurant: Saino.

Saino is preparing the space at 622 W Pender St. for her concept, which focuses on Nepalese and Indo-Chinese cuisine.

The restaurant is the second Vancouver location for the group behind Momo Hut on Fraser Street (which rebranded from Cafe Kathmandu in 2023). The operators have been serving Nepalese cuisine since 2006, though the business took a seven-year hiatus in 2016, moving from Commercial Drive to 6372 Fraser St., where it opened as Momo Hut.

“We are very happy to announce the opening of our new restaurant, Saino,” the group announced on Momo Hut’s Facebook page.

Saino is currently looking for staff for the restaurant on Pender Street.

Vancouver-based Aburi restaurant group was a longtime tenant of 622 W Pender St. Most recently, the Wa! Curry concept closed at the end of September 2023. Wa! Curry opened in March 2023; it was a revamped concept from Vancouver-based Aburi Restaurants Canada, offering Japanese curry dishes.

Before that, Aburi’s Gyoza Bar was located at this address for almost ten years.
