Humane Society hosts drop-in adoption event as Stratford-Perth center fills up

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth (HSKWSP) will be holding an important walk-in adoption event on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, as the Stratford and Kitchener centres have reached maximum capacity.

With nearly 200 animals in their care and another 63 on the surrender list waiting for help, HSKWSP is urging the community to adopt or foster. HSKWSP Chief Executive Officer Victoria Baby hopes the community will choose adoption this week and help them find homes for the pets in their care.

“If you are unable to adopt, we encourage families to open their hearts and homes to foster. Fostering greatly reduces a pet’s stress and anxiety, and having a family care for them in a home environment ensures their overall happiness,” she said.

The need for foster homes is especially acute in the Stratford-Perth area. Volunteer foster parents provide temporary homes for animals until they find their permanent homes, and the HSKWSP provides all the supplies needed to take in a pet.

The walk-in adoption event will be held from 12:00 to 19:30 at the Stratford Perth Humane Society (125 Griffith Road, Stratford) and the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society (250 Riverbend Dr, Kitchener). No appointments are necessary and regular appointments will be paused to accommodate walk-ins during the event. The goal is to facilitate same-day adoptions.

Adoption fees are reduced for some adult dogs and cats to help expedite the process of finding homes. Adoption fees for adult dogs and cats include spaying/neutering, parasite treatment, microchipping, vaccinations, and initial food order.

The HSKWSP also has over 20 kittens available for adoption, for those looking to add a young cat to their family.
