Canadiens Rumors: Montreal Ready for Big Move? – NHL Trade Rumors

According to Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report, after a relatively quiet free agency season, the Montreal Canadiens are now on the verge of making a major move to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.

Despite their best efforts to acquire top talent, including a vigorous pursuit of 2023 Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Marchessault, the Canadiens came up short as Marchessault decided to sign with the Nashville Predators.

Now that most of their top players have signed, the Canadiens are turning their attention to the transfer market to fill their needs.

Armed with a wealth of draft picks and promising young defensemen, Montreal is well-positioned to pursue high-impact trades. Recent rumors have linked the Canadiens to Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Nečas and Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras, both of whom could provide the offensive depth they need, as noted by Richardson.

With a strong core of young talent including Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovský, Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook, signing an established top-six forward via trade could significantly increase Montreal’s scoring power and establish them as a competitive force in the 2024-25 season.
