Comic-Con is getting closer and closer, and now is the time to make some plans if you haven’t already. I’m really looking forward to trying Prince Street Pizza, after forgetting about it last year. Speaking of food, this edition of Under The Tents has some updates on Taco Boy Designs, Eggdrop Ramen, and other non-food-but-just-as-exciting names including Jeff Pina, Victoria Ying, Robin Hobb, and Alex Pardee, to name a few.

Let’s take a look at the news:

  • Who’s a good boy? Who deserves a treat? Treat yourself to the new “Treats Boy: He Loves Treats” print from Little Friends of Printmaking, heading to the San Diego Comic-Con booth #2046.
  • Writer and author Mellow Brown has a less than quiet San Diego Comic-Con schedule, packed with panels (including a Blade Runner panel for the Penguin Random House series, Thursdays at 12:30 PM in room 24ABC, and signing sessions (including one on Thursday at 12:00 PM and one on Friday at 4:00 PM at Titan Booth #5537).
  • Professional wrestler Brimestone steps into the ring (metaphorically speaking, anyway) at San Diego Comic-Con for autographs. His full schedule for the Celebrity Autograph Area at Sails includes:
    • Friday July 26 2:30-7:00 PM
    • Saturday July 27 2:30-7:00 PM
    • Sunday July 28 10am-1.30pm
  • Artist Jeff Pina is terribly busy creating lots of new hand-drawn originals for his Small Press #Q-06 booth. No matter your fandom, you’re sure to find something you like.

In addition, he will make his debut Ghostronaut Book One; SuperPawn vol.02And I love you so much, buddy at his stall.

  • Taco Boy Designs is bringing a pretty good selection of branded merchandise to San Diego Comic-Con, including bags and stickers. That’s not all, though, because they’ll have a pretty glow-in-the-dark look spawn print and a fantastic Alien X Hello Kitty mashup canvas piece. What type of taco is your favorite? I love a good carne asada taco with cilantro (leave out the onion).
  • How about some panel news (spoiler, you might find a few panel announcements in this UTT)? Let’s start with Rachel Lesihman hosting “Unpacking The Female Characters In Nerdom” for The Mary Sue. Panelists are a variety of individuals ready to discuss all things female characters on Friday, July 26th.
  • A mystery grab bag of art is something I’m all for and Nan Hockin is making them a reality at Comic-Con this year. After discovering a stash from last year, Nan is slashing the price in half and they want to add a variety of buttons, postcards, and small prints. $10 seems like a great value!
  • Joey Spiotto, who happens to be a New York Times bestselling illustrator/author, will be at SDCC this year and is previewing a new piece that will be available at the show.
  • Author of The Farseer Trilogy Robin Hobb announced on social media, among other things, that they will be at Comic-Con for a signing session at the Sails Pavilion from 2:30-7:00 PM.
  • The next big holiday is Halloween according to Michael’s. Get in the party mood with some spooky girls from artist Nan Hockin, who showed seven new mini prints on the way to #F-11 in Small Press.
  • Artist Jonathan Bolerjack makes a bold prediction: that his spawn Virgin Mexico Foil will be the biggest exclusive of the con. There will also be signing options and blue labels available. We’re not sure Bolerjack is right, but we wouldn’t bet against him either.

  • Harvey Award-winning cartoonist Victoria Ying took to social media to show off a piece in preparation for SDCC. Any Raven/Teen Titan fans out there? Victoria will be at Artist Alley DD04. Azarath Metrion Zinthos!
  • More panel news ahead of the official schedule release this week with “Authors on the Best Advice I’ve Ever Had,” which author Scott Guild says will take place on Sunday, July 28. Scott will be joined by a handful of other authors for what’s sure to be an entertaining and informative panel.
  • Voice actress Debi Derryberry, who you may know from Jimmy Neutron, will be signing all four days of Comic-Con at the Sails Pavilion. Debi’s credits also include Monster high, Crash Bandicoot, Genshin Impact and the recent FOX series Grimsburg.

  • We have a pretty extensive commission post, but we still wanted to highlight some talented artists, like Naoko Mullally. Naoko will be opening up a limited number of spots on location during SDCC. You can find Naoko and their amazing work at 5500 on the exhibit floor.
