Nova Scotia police are investigating after an attempt was made to arrest a suspected drunk driver in Middle Sackville.

According to the Halifax RCMP, on July 6 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers attempted to stop a suspected intoxicated driver who entered Highway 101 from Beaverbank Rd.

The vehicle did not stop and in the interest of public safety the officer did not continue the pursuit.

Police said the pickup truck left the road and overturned shortly afterward as it attempted to merge onto Exit 2A near Highway 101.

Two people fled the scene after the crash, including a 33-year-old man from Lower Sackville, who was arrested later that morning.

A young person and a woman who were trapped in the overturned truck had to be rescued.

Due to the injuries, the Halifax RCMP referred the matter to the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT), which conducts independent investigations into all serious incidents arising from police conduct in Nova Scotia.
