RCMP are investigating an officer’s involvement in a shooting Saturday evening in a community on the border of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

According to police, a member of the Lloydminster Crime Squad came across a weapons complaint when he encountered the suspect.

The RCMP officer chased the suspect on foot into the park, where they stole an occupied camper and drove it toward the officer. This resulted in the RCMP officer discharging his service firearm.

While attempting to flee, the suspect collided with civilian vehicles, injuring several people. The officer involved suffered minor injuries.

Officials say there will be a heavy police presence in the area around the Weaver Park Campground.

The RCMP’s internal review processes have also been implemented to gather a full account of what happened during the incident, including police training, policies and response.
