Wiltshire Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Devizes.

Officers received the first report of an incident around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday (June 29) in the city’s Estcourt Street area.

When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found a man in his twenties with serious stab wounds.

The victim was taken by air ambulance to the local hospital in Southmead, where doctors described his condition as “stable”.

Following this, a man, also in his twenties, was arrested by police on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a stabbing weapon and assault on an emergency worker.

Police said the suspect was taken to Melksham police station and remanded in custody as he is questioned.

Detective Inspector Gareth Kitchener said of the case: “While investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact location of this incident, we know that both the suspect and the victim were seen walking within the premises at Kwik-Fit ran and immediately afterwards walked onto Sidmouth Street.

“We have received several calls from members of the public regarding the incident and are urging any witnesses who have not yet contacted police to get in touch immediately.”

Kitchener added that at this time police believe there is little additional risk to the public and the investigation remains ongoing. He then thanked the local community for their help so far.

Anyone with relevant information about this case is asked to contact them as soon as possible.

Those who may have any information, or witnessed the attack itself, can speak to police from June 29 by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 150.
