A stunning immersive experience has taken over Central London, right next to a busy tube station. The Butterfly Trail has been described as ‘mixed reality’ as giant screens show hundreds of butterflies fluttering around a fantastical glasshouse.

The displays enclose a large space directly opposite Tottenham Court Road station, and best of all, entry is free. The Butterfly Trail has a whimsical side too, as the butterflies leave glowing trails and occasionally burst together in a huge show of glitter.

But it’s not just something to look at; it’s also interactive. You can connect to the installation via your phone, where you can explore the Glass House of Butterflies and create real-time animations.

After connecting your phone to the setup, you can bring the butterflies to you. You can hold them in the palm of your hand or watch them zoom around the room, controlled by you.

It is also family friendly as little explorers can get involved in discovering new butterflies too, but it is important to check the schedule on the Outernet website to make sure it is playing.

The Butterfly House is located in the Now Building opposite Tottenham Court Road station. For more information and opening times, visit the Outernet website here.
