Ritchie’s selection marks the second straight year a Raider has been chosen in the NHL Draft, as defenseman Terrell Goldsmith was selected in the fourth round, 102nd overall to the Arizona Coyotes. Meanwhile, Howe is the first PA-born player selected in the Draft since Braden Schneider was taken 19th overall by the New York Rangers in 2020.

Last season in the WHL, Ritchie had 19 goals and 25 assists in 47 games, adding three goals and four assists in five playoff games. The Calgary native also won a gold medal with Canada at the 2024 IIHF World U18 Championship in Finland in the spring and was named the 2023 WHL Rookie of the Year.

Howe captained the Regina Pats last season and led the team in scoring with 28 goals and 49 assists in 68 games.

As expected, Boston University standout Macklin Celebrini was selected first overall by the San Jose Sharks on Friday on the first day of the Draft, while Artyom Levshunov was selected second by the Chicago Blackhawks and Beckett Sennecke was selected third by the Anaheim Ducks.
