Three people were killed Friday afternoon north of Montreal after a fiery crash involving a large truck and three other vehicles.

Police say the collision happened just before 2 p.m. in the Auteuil neighborhood of Laval.

According to Stéphanie Beshara, spokeswoman for the Laval Police Department, a large truck was traveling south on Route 335, near Boulevard Saint-Saëns, and collided head-on with another vehicle traveling north.

A third vehicle then collided head-on with the truck, after which a fourth vehicle hit the truck from behind.

The truck and one of the vehicles caught fire, police said.

There were a total of six victims, including the deceased and a pregnant woman who is no longer in danger of dying. One of the vehicles was also carrying a man and a child, police said.

At least three of the victims were sent to hospital with serious injuries, but their conditions have stabilized, said Erika Landry, a Laval police spokeswoman.

Route 335 is closed in both directions for several hours near Saint-Saëns Boulevard due to a police investigation.
